母の日と薔薇の花言葉

5月は母の日です。

薔薇の砂糖菓子に出会ったのは、フィレンツェで母へのお土産として購入した薔薇の砂糖漬けを、母からひとつ分けてもらったことがきっかけでした。Confetti ROSAの薔薇の砂糖菓子も、母の日に向けてお選びいただけていることを、大変嬉しく思っております。

母の日にちなみ、今回は薔薇の花言葉についてご紹介します。一般的に、赤い薔薇は「愛」「情熱」、白い薔薇は「純潔」「尊敬」、ピンクの薔薇は「上品」「感謝」を意味するとされています。さらに、蕾や満開といった状態、本数、品種によっても意味が異なり、薔薇は他のどの花よりも多くの花言葉をもつといわれています。

花言葉は、1819年にフランスでシャルロット・ドゥ・ラトゥール による著書『花言葉』の出版をきっかけに、ヨーロッパ中に広まりました。花を贈り、その花言葉によって想いを伝えることは、当時の富裕層の間で洗練された社交文化として親しまれていたそうです。

Mother’s Day and the Language of Roses

May is the month of Mother’s Day in Japan.

My encounter with crystallized roses began in Florence, when I received one from my mother after bringing them home as a gift. It brings me great joy that Confetti ROSA’s creations are now chosen for this occasion.

Roses are rich in symbolism—red for love, white for purity, and pink for gratitude. Their meanings also vary, making them one of the most expressive flowers.

The language of flowers spread across Europe in the 19th century, becoming a refined way to convey emotions.
